How To Get The Most Out Of Your RV Space

An RV(recreational vehicle) is like a dream on wheels. With RVs, you can live or travel as simply or elegantly as you wish. RVs offer such a variety of features that there is something to suit the taste of each and every person.

Just like modular housing, RVs enable people to live the type of life they desire.  Whether you rent an RV or purchase it, you can make your RV experience better by maximizing the space available and organizing it according to your preference. Read on for some tips and tricks to get the most out of the space in your RV.

A Plan in Time

In the case of RVs, a plan will help you save space. You need to have a plan ready before you move your stuff into your RV. A list with categories of items that will go on the RV can prove to be very useful. It could help you work out where to place everything.

Even if you have already moved into your RV and are already on your way to your next adventure, you can still make a plan and rearrange. Carry with you everything that you need to be comfortable, but simultaneously, be very pragmatic.

Think of All Dimensions

Optimize the space in your RV by paying attention to all the dimensions. Think of how you can utilize floor space as well as vertical space. There might be narrow spaces in your RV where you could fit in vertical shelves. Horizontal shelves along the wall can help neatly store away many items.

Consider the height of your cabinets and closet as well. You could use undershelf baskets to maximize this space. Hanging shelves in closets can store many belongings without taking up valuable closet floor space. It is a good idea to use hammocks to store lightweight stuff. You could use macrame hammocks for fruits, vegetables, toys, and such items. This method of storage helps free up some counter or cabinet space. Hang up items on hooks to keep them organized.

The Door to Maximizing Space

You might already be using your doors to hang up jackets, scarves, umbrellas, and such items. But did you know you could use an over-the-door trash bag holder and eliminate the need for trash cans? And although it is fashioned to be a trash bag holder, it need not be limited to that use. You could utilize it for hanging up bags filled with small items if you so wish. Use your creativity to come up with more uses for such holders as per your requirements.

It is not even necessary to puncture holes in your doors to install some coat hooks. You can use an over-the-door hook hanger. The door will bear the weight of the items on the hooks. Hang up your purses, belts, and such accessories. You can even place an over-the-door shower caddy on your bathroom door to store your bath products. An over-the-door towel rack is also an option.

Have you considered using your closet or cabinet doors in a similar fashion? You can add hook hangers on the cabinet or closet doors and use these to neatly store electrical cords, flashlights, keys, and other items. It will also become easier to find these items.

A Sticky Situation

Use the power of adhesive. It is common to use adhesive command hooks. But you can go a step or two further and make this kind of sticky situation work in your favor. You could use adhesive organizers or shelves. Did you know you could even add self-adhesive drawers under tables?

The Right Kind of Tension

Get rid of the tension that arises from not having sufficient storage space. Use tension rods as an inexpensive solution to your storage woes. Use tension rods with S hooks to hang up utensils in a cabinet, or ladles and spoons in your RV kitchen. You could use tension rods for paper towels, small curtains, clothes, or spray bottles. While tension rods and hooks already help you maximize space, imagine hanging plastic cubbies on them. You could benefit from using tension rod shelving too.

Divide and Conquer

Organizing storage spaces well helps you get the most out of them. Compartmentalize your drawers with drawer organizers. Select the sizes as per your requirement.  Use clear storage containers to put away, see and access your stuff easily. Packing cubes are also great for maximizing storage space.

The Transformers of Furniture

The transformers of furniture are your heroes for saving space and offering extra storage. These are furniture pieces that you might fold, extend, twist, rotate, pull apart, or put together for different purposes. They have at least more than one function. Such items are a boon for your RV.

Magnetic Attraction

Magnets can be very useful for organizing and storing a variety of items. You can use magnetic tape for small and lightweight items like papers and pictures. A single magnet with adhesive backing would prove useful if you are looking to store an item in a convenient place. You could use magnetic remote control holders to store your remotes and prevent them from getting lost. Consider using wall-mounted magnetic holders for your knives and tools. Pick up strong, good-quality ones that will prevent stuff from moving around while in transit. The most space-optimizing magnetic option would be magnetic refrigerator organizers.

To Nest or to Stack?

Nesting and stacking are both excellent ways to get more out of your RV space. You could start with items that already offer nesting options like nesting pots and containers. Or, you can nest smaller items into the hollows of other larger items wherever possible.

Several options are available for stacking and thus utilizing space optimally. You could purchase stackable drawers or containers, or you could stack normal containers paying attention to size and stability. Additionally, you have the option of using stackable mini shelves inside your cabinets.

Purge Regularly

This is one of the most important tips for getting the best use out of your RV space. You need to declutter regularly and get rid of the items that you no longer use or need. If you do not purge your RV frequently, unnecessary items will consume space and keep on piling up.

Planning and organization are key to getting the most out of your RV space. Your efforts can turn your RV experience from enjoyable to magical!
