Everything You Needed to Know About the RV Kitchen Sink

Everything You Needed to Know About the RV Kitchen Sink

Let’s face it … if you weren’t worried about amenities, you would still be tent camping. Living your best RV life means that you can travel with all the comforts of your sticks and bricks home … including the kitchen sink! Let’s take a look at the types of RV sinks available and how you can choose to make some upgrades to your travel trailer experience.

The main difference between your everyday kitchen sink and your camper RV sink is the materials used. RV sinks are made to work with your travel trailer’s plumbing system, which uses PVC or flexible pipelines instead of the rigid metal pipes that you usually find in sticks and bricks plumbing systems.

The sink in your RV may also be a specific size or shape to accommodate your motorhome’s layout, such as bathroom corner sinks to save space while still getting the job done.  RV sink replacements are available in just about every shape and size. You just need to measure carefully to be sure that you are getting the right fit.  You will need to determine the length, width, and depth of your rig’s current sink to ensure the proper fit of your replacement sink.

Plastic RV Sinks

Plastic RV sinks are lightweight and inexpensive, making them the norm for many entry-level travel trailers. Although they can be susceptible to cracks, dings, and stains, plastic camper sinks are the most cost-effective option to replace and update.

Acrylic RV Sinks

The next step up from your rig’s plastic RV sink is acrylic. Much like a residential model, acrylic sinks are heat molded and backed with fiberglass. Acrylic RV sinks come in a variety of colors that will generally resist chipping and stains but can easily be repaired or touched up if they do. A sink mat is a  great option to prevent the likelihood of chips and repairs in all RV sinks, but especially in acrylic models.

Stainless Steel RV Sinks

The most popular material option for travel trailer kitchen sinks is stainless steel. Durable and easy to sanitize, RV stainless steel sinks most closely mimic the feeling of a residential kitchen sink. While stainless steel sinks are, indeed, stain-resistant, they can scratch and may dent. Stainless steel replacement RV sinks are an affordable option and are available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes for just about any configuration. While stainless steel sinks are easy to polish, be sure to check that the ingredients of the cleanser are safe for your grey tank.

Solid Surface RV Sinks

Solid surface RV sinks are a more upscale option that has grown in popularity in recent years. Solid surface camper sinks are chemically bonded to create a smooth, one-piece look in a variety of consistent patterns or colors such as stone, granite, or quartz There are no grout lines or areas for bacteria and mold to gather, making them easy to clean and resistant to stains.

RV Kitchen Faucets

You can have everything and the kitchen sink without an RV kitchen faucet! Entry-level trailer kitchen faucets are generally made of cheaper, less durable materials like plastic. Most rig owners choose to upgrade to something more durable and there is a wide variety of replacement RV kitchen faucets to choose from. You “can” retrofit an everyday home kitchen faucet to fit in the RV but some smaller rigs may have different sizes and configurations that make this difficult or impossible.

RV Sink Covers

Any RV owner knows that counter space is limited in the rig, especially in the kitchen area. An RV sink cover can increase your work and storage space while protecting your sink from scratches, dents and dings. An added bonus is that you can use the camper sinks to store items and keep them neatly covered away under an RV sink cover. Available in a variety of materials and sizes, you will want to carefully measure your space to ensure a smooth, even fit.
