Our goal is to ensure that our product and service is the benchmark by which the competition is measured.
Based in South Australia, REDARC has 40 years’ experience in the research, design, development and manufacture of a range of electronic voltage converters and associated products, inverters, power supplies, battery chargers, brake controllers and trailer braking products.
In 2019, REDARC will be celebrating it’s 40-year anniversary. With a range of activities planned, this is not only a celebration of what the business has achieved as a whole, but a celebration of our customers supporting Australian manufacturers.
REDARC Electronics was founded in August of 1979 by electronics engineer, Robin (Bob) William Mackie in South Australia. Bob started the business by designing and manufacturing vehicle ignition systems and voltage converters. In fact, the name REDARC, is believed to have come from the spark developed in the first ignition system having a “red arc”.
In 1997, Anthony and Michele Kittel along with Michele’s Father, Denis Brion, purchased the business following the premature death of its founder.
Denis Brion retired in 2002 and Anthony and Michele purchased 100% of the business at that time.
Under the current ownership, REDARC has grown from these humble beginnings to become a world-class, advanced electronics manufacturer, servicing both domestic and international markets
REDARC Electronics has been designing and manufacturing electronic products for all types of vehicles and applications for the last 35 years.
With over 250 years combined experience in our engineering department, a purpose-built design and manufacturing facility and a hand-picked production team, REDARC has the capability to conceptualise, design, test and manufacture a range of industry leading products, to suit all vehicles from recreational through to commercial and industrial applications.
In 2014, REDARC were announced the Telstra Australian Business of the Year and in 2015 acquired Hummingbird Electronics, a bespoke provider of electronic solutions for vehicles with intellectual properties in radio frequency.
In 2016, REDARC announced a major expansion of its Lonsdale facility, which will see the workforce almost double over the next four years. The upgrade will allow REDARC to capitalise on new market opportunities and house upgraded, state-of-the-art equipment to enhance manufacturing capabilities.
A redevelopment of REDARC’s Australian manufacturing facility located in Lonsdale has added 3,000sqm of advanced manufacturing space. The $22million development will enable REDARC to increase its manufacturing capacity by a staggering 250% and significantly increase productivity. The additional space now houses state of the art equipment such as a new Surface Mount Technology line for loading electronic components, an Electromagnetic Compatibility chamber and a Vibration test lab that enables highly accelerated lifetime testing of products that can simulate 10 years of life in just two days. Three new Universal Collaborative Robots ‘Cobots’ have also been purchased.
During the last year REDARC has also installed a 100kw solar power plant on the roof of its Lonsdale plant and a Tesla Battery bank. This involved the installation of 370 solar panels capable of generating 140 megawatt hours of energy per year.
Through a program of significant reinvestment into research, development, staff development and training, REDARC has been able to maintain the highest quality of manufacturing standards by keeping its processes in-house when many other manufacturers have opted to go offshore and relocate their manufacturing to more cost-effective countries outside of Australia.
